PE-UHMW: an alternative to PFAS

What is PE-UHMW?

Very-high-molecular-weight polyethylene - UHMW-PE or PE-1000 - is a very strong material without PFAS. Its molecular chain is very similar to that of PTFE. However, in the case of UHMW-PE, the carbon atoms are bonded to hydrogen atoms instead of fluorine atoms. This difference also varies the possible applications. PE-UHMW materials.

Properties of PE-UHMW:

  • Non-stick surface
  • Low coefficient of friction of approximately 0.2 to 0.25 => very good sliding properties, even during dry operation.
  • Very good wear resistance, even without load.
  • Excellent chemical resistance to most solvents, acids and bases.
  • Temperatures: from -260°C to approx. 80°C.
  • Physiologically harmless (food approvals, e.g. according to the FDA).
  • No thermal expansion => multifunctional solutions possible.

Our UHMW-PE materials:

  • Enduflon P1 (translucent white): pure PE-UHMW.
  • Enduflon P16 (matt white): modified PE-UHMW for increased abrasion resistance and use up to 110°C.
  • Enduflon P10 (black): Conductive PE-UHMW for use in explosion hazard areas (ATEX).
  • Enduflon P17 (blue): Coloured virgin PE-UHMW for use in certain areas of the food industry.
Certificates (FDA, ATEX, CE, etc.) are provided on request upon ordering.
